The Club has a small fleet of three boats available for members to hire.

We have ...

  • Topper Sport 16
  • Laser 2000
  • Laser Pico.

Notes for Club Sailing Boat Use

MBSC have 3 fully operational club boats for members use. A Laser 2000 a Laser Pico and a Topper Sport 16.

There is a nominal fee charged to use the boats, this is solely used for the upkeep of the boats. Currently these fees are £5.00 per session(a session being a race, or either a morning or an afternoon). No fees are charged for sail training.

This Log is simply to enable members to book the use of the boats and acts as record that boats are signed out on all occasions. This should ensure that any repairs  required to the boats can be logged and carried out, enabling the boats to be in constant tip top condition for members use.

The primary purpose of the club boats is for training

>Unless prior arrangement from the Sailing Committee is sought, Club Boats will only be allowed on the water in the company of the Safety Boat.

Guidance Notes for the Hiring of Club Boats.

+    The hirer must be a paid-up member of the Club

+    Each member is only permitted to enter their name for one session in advance (two if am/pm on the same day).

+   Fill in the Log and a Boat Hire Form

+   If the hirer fills in this Log, in the absence of a Sailing Committee Member, the onus is on the hirer to contact a Sailing Committee member as soon as possible to confirm the booking with the appropriate payment, to avoid disappointment.

+   The hirer must be deemed by the Sailing Committee (or member of) to be competent enough to sail the boat in the prevailing conditions (this may over rule the daily risk assessment by the Race Officer). This would normally be evidence of qualification to RYA Level 2.

Procedure on the day.

+   Arrive at the club 1 1/2 Hours before start of race. Contact a Sailing Committee member(check notice board) to inform them that you are hiring a club boat. They will issue the appropriate key.

+   The sails are locked in the Garage, the Race Office or Duty Safety Crew will open this.

+   When you have rigged and are ready to sail, inform the Race Officer, in the square head, whether you intend to race or not. Please remember that they will be busy setting courses and organising safety boats, so please do this in plenty of time.

+   If you are taking part in the race, you will naturally be within the area covered by the safety boat(s), however, if you intend not to race, you must keep within the Bay. For the purposes of Club Boat, the Bay is deemed to be the old Sewer Pipe buoy to the West (red), the Point (block of flats) to the East and up to 2/3s the distance to the South Margate buoy to the North. This will enable the Safety Boat(s) to have a reasonable cover of the Club Boats whilst covering the racing fleet.

+   When the Racing Fleet have finished and are returning to the shore the Safety Boats will soon be following, which will be the end of the session, the Club Boats must return at this time.

+   Whether you have raced or not, inform the Race Officer that you are ashore and he will sign you off.

+   Repeat the above procedure if you have booked for the afternoon session of the day.Or,either hand the boat over to the next hirer,or de-rig reporting any damage or problems you may have had with the boat to a Sailing Committee Member.

+   Wash boat thoroughly in fresh water, roll mainsail from top and place in sail bag and return to garage.

+  Tie boat cover on.TIE BOAT DOWN TO TIE DOWNS.
